The Golden Strad – violin

Modeled after and inspired by the Stradivari Messiah 1716
Back is European maple selected by Gunther Dick for Alfie Myhre
The top is haselfichte spruce sourced from, Mcbride, BC
The linings, corner and end blocks are willow sourced fro Valemount, BC
The neck block is spruce also sourced from Valemount, BC
The varnish was made in my backyard with cold pressed filtered linseed oil and pitch which I picked from Grand Fir trees which are only found in Canada in S. Britisb Columbia.
When finishing the varnish, I use water sourced from the Prince of Wales icefield on Ellesmere Island.
The boxwood tailpiece is from Bois d’Harmonie in France. The Boxwood pegs are from Otto Tempel in Germany.
The label is hand printed on a vintage press in Fernie, BC. by mandolinist Michael Hepher. It’s not easy to duplicate.
As an aside, a cousin to this violin with the back wood sourced by Gunther Dick and also inspired by the As an 1716 Messiah is the main plaver for one of Canada’s top concertmasters, now retired.
