Resonators

While originally designed as a louder guitar (to compete with the trumpets, saxophones and banjos of the 1920s), this mechanically amplified instrument owes its popularity to a wide variety of musical styles. The combination of wood and metal create the unique dobro sound, a sound first envisioned by George Beauchamp. The first instruments were built by John Dopyera and his brothers (hence the name "Dobro").
